Zeiss Otus ML 35mm F1.4 Lens Announced, Priced $2,299

Zeiss has announced the new Zeiss Otus ML 35mm F1.4 Lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, available for Canon RF, Nikon Z and Sony E mounts.

The new 35mm F1.4 closely mirrors the design language of the existing 50mm F1.4 Otus ML, featuring a robust all-metal barrel and a dedicated distance scale. The most noticeable distinction is its petal-shaped lens hood, which is tailored to accommodate its wider field of view.

Optically, the lens employs a sophisticated 15-element, 11-group construction, which Zeiss describes as an aspherical Distagon design. This complex arrangement is engineered to deliver the brand’s signature sharpness and rendering characteristics.

Zeiss positions this lens as an ideal companion for street, travel, and documentary photographers. It also offers flexibility for video work, as the aperture ring can be de-clicked using a small supplied tool for silent, stepless aperture adjustments.

Physically, the lens measures 77mm in diameter and 101mm in length for the E-mount version. It has a weight of approximately 698 grams, varying slightly by mount. For close-up work, it achieves a minimum focus distance of 0.3 meters (11.8 inches), resulting in a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.72.
