I finally got my first real camera which is the Nikon Z50 and I am so excited to take it on my trip to Yellowstone next month! But I am totally lost with the lenses. It came with a tiny one but I want to take pictures of animals from far away and this one doesnt zoom much. I keep seeing numbers like 50-250mm and 70-300mm and I have no idea what any of it means or if it even fits my camera. I dont have much money left after buying the body maybe like $450 max.
Sorry if this is a dumb question I am just a total beginner. What are some good budget zoom lenses for a Nikon mirrorless?
In my experience, sticking with native glass is the best move to avoid messing with adapters. I've tried many budget setups over the years and for a Z50, you 100% want the Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR. It is sharp, fast, and light enough for hiking. You can snag one used for like $300 easy, leaving you extra cash for your trip.
Building on the earlier suggestion, compare these specifications:
- Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR: Native Z-mount compatibility.
- Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR: More reach, requires expensive Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter.
