Tamron has officially announced the new Tamron 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A062), a lightweight, compact large-aperture standard zoom through F2.8.
This new lens costs $699, first available for pre-order at B&H/ Adorama. It will start shipping from October 27th, 2022.
Tamron Co., Ltd. will release the large aperture standard zoom lens “20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A062)” for Sony E-mount compatible with full-size mirrorless single-lens cameras on October 27, 2022. The suggested retail price is 118,800 yen (tax included).
While achieving a large aperture of F2.8 over the entire zoom range from 20mm to 40mm, it is 86.5mm long and weighs 365g, making it the smallest and lightest lens in its class.
The lens construction is 12 elements in 11 groups. Special glass materials such as 4 LD lenses, 2 GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses, and 1 compound lens are used to achieve both high image quality and compact size throughout the zoom range.
A linear motor focus mechanism VXD is used for AF drive.
Wide macro photography is possible with a minimum focusing distance of 0.17m at the wide-angle end and a maximum magnification of 1:3.8.
Tamron’s new 20-40mm F/2.8 is a standard zoom lens with unusual specs starting at 20mm. It’s extremely lightweight and compact for a F2.8 through lens, so I think it will be useful for scenery, walks, and street photography. The high-speed VXD AF motor is also a plus point. The price is 87,120 yen (including tax) for Kitamura, which is reasonable for a standard zoom lens with F2.8.
