So I got a Canon R1 for my graduation and I am taking it to Italy in two weeks. I literally know nothing about cameras and need to buy a lens. What is the best single travel lens for this camera that does a bit of everything?

Re: "> need to buy a lens. What is..." - honestly, I stayed so happy using the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM on my last big trip. Ngl, its the best way to save cash for actually enjoying Italy. I didnt miss the expensive L glass at all. It handles wide shots of ruins and zooms in tight on people... works well for basically everything without the bulk.

That range is totally the sweet spot, but honestly, my experience with the budget version was pretty disappointing. A similar kit I took abroad wasnt as good as expected:

  • it really struggled in low light during late dinners
  • the variable aperture was annoying for video
  • basically didnt feel right on a pro body Experience taught me that constant aperture glass is worth the extra cost for a trip like this. Youll probably want something more high-end to match that camera!
