Honestly so fed up with the kit lens that came with my T7, the focus is just constantly hunting and I missed like half the shots at my sisters graduation last week because of it. Im just trying to get some decent portraits of my dog without everything looking soft and blurry. I have maybe 200 bucks to spend right now and really need something that actually works by next month for a trip to Chicago. Is there anything worth buying at that price point? Im tired of fighting with this plastic piece of junk that came in the box and just want a lens that actually takes a sharp photo...

Ditch the kit lens for sure. For portraits and general sharpness, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM is basically the industry standard for budget shooters. It focuses way faster than that plastic kit lens and handles low light much better.

  • It is super sharp once you stop down to f/2.8.
  • The bokeh is miles ahead of what you have.
  • Great for dogs and travel shots. Honestly, you wont regret the upgrade.

Honestly, the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM pancake lens is way better for travel. It is sharper than that kit lens and fits in your pocket, tbh.

Honestly, I feel your pain. Dealing with those kit lenses is such a headache, and it is infuriating how manufacturers bundle those flimsy things with cameras just to save a few bucks. It drives me crazy that they expect beginners to learn on gear that basically sabotages every shot you try to take. Honestly, its ridiculous how much they charge for these bodies while giving you optics that feel like they belong in a cereal box. It really is such a scam when you consider how much better the gear could be for the price.

  • The constant focus hunting makes me want to scream.
  • Plastic mounts just feel cheap and flimsy.
  • Optical quality has definitely gone downhill over the years.
  • Getting sharp shots shouldn't be this much of a struggle.
