Im super hyped to finally start doing portraits with my EOS R! Ive got a budget around 300 bucks and need something fast for a shoot next month. Im stuck between the RF 50mm f/1.8 and a used EF 85mm f/1.8 with an adapter. Which one is better for soft bokeh?

In my experience, the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is sharp but the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM wins for bokeh. Get the 85mm for that creamy portrait compression.

Just saw this. Before you pick, what kind of portraits are you doing? Full body or tight headshots? The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is nice, but compression changes everything.

Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
