So I have been shooting on my R50 for about eight months now and honestly I love how compact the system is. I have been using the kit lens and a cheap manual focus 35mm but I am honestly getting tired of missing focus on my niece when she is running around the yard. I need something with decent autofocus and that classic portrait compression for when I am shooting headshots for my friends in the city next month.
My budget is super tight right now, maybe 400 bucks max, which is why I am losing my mind looking at the RF glass. The RF 50mm f/1.8 seemed like the obvious choice but on the APS-C sensor of the R50/R10 it is effectively an 80mm focal length which is fine I guess but I am worried it might be a bit tight for indoor stuff. Then I looked at the RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro but that is getting pricey and I have heard mixed things about the AF speed for moving subjects.
My logic was to maybe pick up an adapter and look for an old EF-S lens like the 60mm macro or maybe the 50mm f/1.4 but I am worried about weight distribution and the adapter adding bulk since I really bought the R50 to keep things lightweight. Is there anything native I missed or should I just suck it up and get the Nifty Fifty and deal with the crop factor? I feel like I am overthinking this and just need someone to tell me if the 50mm is actually decent for portraits on the R10 or if I am going to regret not getting something wider. Really stressing because the shoot is only three weeks away and I have zero backup plan right now...
Honestly, just grab the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM. It is super cheap and sharp enough for headshots. The crop makes it an 80mm equivalent, which is actually perfect for portraits, tho a bit tight indoors.

- You might want to consider the Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapter with an older Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, but honestly it just adds bulk you dont need.
Tbh the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is way sharper than the Canon fifty. Unfortunately the focus motor on the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is super sluggish.
