I making some YouTube videos with the EOS R50, any suggestions on lenses?
The Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM is a fantastic lens for vlogging with the EOS R50. It's compact, lightweight, and offers a wide field of view, perfect for handheld vlogging. The STM focus motor is smooth and quiet, ideal for video work.
Sigma and Tamron is going to announce RF mount APS-C lenses, just wait for these lenses in coming months.
Can vouch for this
The RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM would be my top pick for the EOS R50 for YouTube. It's sharp, has built-in stabilization, fast autofocus that's quiet for video, and a wide f/1.8 aperture for blurring the background. The macro mode lets you get creative B-roll clips too. It's also quite affordable. Pair it with the R50's flip-out vari-angle screen and Dual Pixel AF and you'll get great video.
Nice, didn't know that
For Canon EOS R50, a great prime lens is Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM, which is excellent for achieving a shallow depth of field and great low-light performance. For a zoom option, Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STMÂ offers versatility in framing your shots, making it ideal for a variety of YouTube content.
Re: "Can vouch for this" - honestly i think the absolute best move for a budget setup is looking at older EF-S glass! You can save so much money by using an adapter and the performance is still fantastic. I love how much variety you get for way less cash!
- Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is essential. It opens up millions of cheap used lenses that work perfectly on the R50.
- Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM is an incredible pancake lens. Its super sharp and tiny for vlogging, tho you need the adapter.
- Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM is the native kit lens and is often super cheap on the used market. Just gotta keep in mind the compatibility stuff tho... because the R50 is an APS-C sensor, using big full frame lenses can make the balance feel kinda wonky. Stick to lenses meant for crop sensors to keep the whole rig light. Its so exciting to see what you can create without breaking the bank!
