I recently got the Canon EOS R7 mirrorless camera and am looking for a good lens for portrait photography. I'd prefer something with a wide aperture for nice background separation and bokeh. Any recommendations from R7 portrait shooters? Thanks!

The best portrait lens for your Canon EOS R7 depends on your preferences and budget, but a few popular options are widely recommended:

  1. Canon RF 50mm F1.2L USM - This is a premium lens that offers stunning image quality, beautiful bokeh, and a fast maximum aperture, making it excellent for portrait photography.

  2. Canon RF 85mm F1.2L USM - Another outstanding option, this lens is ideal for classic portraiture with its longer focal length and also provides beautiful background blur.

  3. Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro IS STMĀ - This is a more budget-friendly option that still delivers excellent portrait performance with the added benefit of macro capabilities.
  4. Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art - If you're open to third-party lenses, this Sigma lens is known for its exceptional image quality and is highly regarded by portrait photographers.

Just wait for Sigma RF-S lenses, they will released soon in later this year. I think Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN C is the best portrait lens.

RF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens is a good choice for EOS R7: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=Canon+RF50mm+Mirrorless+Cameras+4515C002&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50

@Ryan I agree, the RF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens is currently best portrait lens for EOS R7. Hope upcoming Sigma and Tamron RF-S lenses will be better.

The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM is an incredible portrait lens for the EOS R7. It's super sharp, has dreamy bokeh, and the f/1.2 aperture allows for shooting in low light conditions. It's pricey, but worth it if portraits are your main focus.

For a more budget-friendly option, consider the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM. It's a versatile lens that delivers great image quality for portraits and also allows you to capture close-up details with its macro capabilities. The IS is helpful for handheld shooting.

I'm also waiting for this lens.
