hey sorry if this is a super dumb question but im kinda freaking out a bit. my sister is getting married in Italy this coming June and my husband surprised me with a Canon 90D for my birthday since my old point and shoot finally died. Problem is... I literally have no idea what I am doing with it lol. It came with the basic kit lens (the 18-55mm one) but people online are saying I wont be able to zoom in enough for wedding shots or walking around Rome taking photos of buildings and stuff. Im panicking because I dont want to swap lenses all the time on the trip, especially since I'll probably drop one and break it. I need like a magic one-size-fits-all lens that can zoom in really far and also take normal pictures. My budget is around 500 bucks max since the camera already cost a lot. What is the absolute best travel zoom lens for a Canon 90D that wont break my back or my bank account?
First off, happy birthday and congrats to your sister! Dont panic about the 90D, its an absolute beast of a camera and you are gonna do great. Since you want one single lens to do everything without swapping, look into the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD for Canon. Ngl, it is a bit of a beast weight-wise, but the reach is insane! You can go from wide Rome street shots all the way to zooming in on tiny architectural details across the piazza. Another super solid and slightly lighter option is the Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Contemporary DC Macro OS HSM, which usually sits right around your five hundred dollar budget. Both have image stabilization too, which saves blurry shots when you are tired walking all day. Grab one of these, slap a UV filter on it for protection, and you are golden!
