Looking for the best portrait lens for my Canon EOS RP.

Im so done with this 24-105 kit lens its just too dark and the bokeh looks like garbage honestly. But im finally upgrading for a big shoot in Seattle next week and I cant wait to see the difference! Got about 500 bucks to spend... whats the best portrait lens for the RP?

I see why people like the 85mm macro, but I might suggest being careful with that choice for a big shoot. The autofocus on that specific lens can be a bit sluggish since its a macro, which might be frustrating if youre trying to capture candid moments in Seattle. Honestly, the hunting can get old fast when you are on a clock. I would suggest looking at these options instead:The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is way more versatile for street portraits and sits way under your budget.If you really want that 85mm look, try to find a used Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM and the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. Its often better to have the faster focus of those older USM motors than the slower STM ones found in the entry-level RF glass. Just make sure the adapter fits into your total cost... it really changes how the RP handles.

I ditched my kit glass for the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM a few years back. It works well within that budget and gives decent results for portraits.
