so i finally pulled the trigger on the r5 last month but now im staring at my bank account and panicking because i have to shoot my sisters wedding in october and i still dont have a proper portrait lens. i spent days reading reviews and everyone says the rf 85mm f1.2 is the holy grail but it is just so heavy and honestly way over my budget of 2000 dollars. i saw some guys on youtube saying the cheap 85mm f2 macro is actually sharp but then i read on a forum that the autofocus is slow and the bokeh looks kinda jittery or nervous which scares me because the lighting in this barn in vermont is gonna be a nightmare. my logic was maybe the 50mm 1.2 would be better for the reception stuff too but then i lose that compression you get with a longer lens right? i also looked at the 135mm 1.8 because the sample shots are gorgeous but i feel like i might be standing in the next county just to get a headshot if the venue is cramped. i just want something that makes people look amazing without me having to sell a kidney or carry a literal brick around all day. should i just bite the bullet on the expensive 85 or is there a middle ground im missing?...
Honestly, you might want to consider the Canon EF 85mm f1.4L IS USM paired with a Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. Be careful with that f2 macro... the STM motor might hunt too much in a dark barn. The EF 1.4 is a total workhorse and way cheaper than the RF version. It hits that sweet spot for bokeh and wont be a massive brick in your hands.
