honestly i am so over my current setup right now. i’ve been using the old EF 17-40mm with the adapter on my R5 and it is just... bad. like really bad. the corners are basically mush and it feels like a total waste of such a high res sensor you know? i have this huge real estate shoot coming up in portland in three weeks and i’m genuinely panicking because i can’t deliver blurry photos to this specific client who is super picky about every little detail. i’m literally losing sleep over this choice because it’s a lot of money and i cant afford to get it wrong again and waste another grand on glass that doesnt work.
here is what i need to find:
- native RF mount (no more adapters please)
- tack sharp even at the edges for those 45mp files
- budget is strictly under $2300
- needs to handle flare well since i shoot into the sun a lot
i’ve been staring at the 14-35mm f4 and the 15-35mm f2.8 for days now. some people say the f4 has crazy distortion that the camera has to fix and i’m worried that ruins the image quality or something but the 2.8 is just so heavy and expensive. i just dont know what to do and i need to order something by friday to get it in time... help?
omg i totally feel your pain!! switching from that old EF glass to native RF is like night and day honestly. i was super worried about the distortion on the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM too but seriously... dont stress about it! the r5 handles it all in-camera and the files look absolutely fantastic. for real estate you are usually shooting at f/8 anyway so paying for the f/2.8 is just overkill imo. here are my tips for you:
- that extra 1mm at the wide end is a total game changer for tiny powder rooms
- its so light that my hand doesnt cramp up during 3-hour shoots get the 14-35mm and save that extra cash for some lights or something!! you are gonna kill it at that portland shoot!! if you need anything else just ask!!
