Just pulled the trigger on the R5 Mark II and now Im lowkey panicking about glass. Ive been using adapted EF lenses for a decade but I feel like this sensor is gonna show every tiny flaw in my old 24-105. I need one solid zoom for a trip to Iceland in three weeks and I cant decide which way to go.

  • budget under 2800
  • usage mostly landscape but some street and video
  • must take advantage of the new AF system
  • not too heavy since Im hiking a lot

Im torn between the RF 24-70mm f2.8 or if I should just stick with the f4 version for the extra reach. Does the 2.8 actually make a huge difference with the IBIS on this body? I dont want to regret spending three grand on a lens that feels redundant...

Honestly, the Canon RF 24-70mm f2.8L IS USM was not as good as expected for travel. It is way too heavy for hiking, and unfortunately, the f2.8 aperture doesnt justify the weight with that R5 II IBIS. I had issues with it being bulky in my pack.
