Im getting so annoyed trying to pick a lens for my R7. Im mostly shooting birds in my backyard here in Oregon and the kit lens just isnt cutting it for reach. I looked at the RF 100-400mm because its cheap and light but then everyone says the 100-500mm L is the only way to go for sharpness. The price difference is huge though and honestly I dont have two grand to drop right now. Is the 100-400 actually gonna be decent for backyard wildlife or am I just gonna be disappointed with the image quality compared to the L glass? Does anyone have experience with this specific setup...

Honestly, grab the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM and dont look back! I use it on my R7 all the time and the reach is just insane. Since the R7 has that 1.6x crop factor, you are basically getting an effective 640mm field of view, which is perfect for backyard birds.
