Ive been shooting with my 90D for ages but my current kit lens just isnt cutting it for these epic mountain shots Im planning for a trip to the Rockies next month. I need something wider than 18mm, maybe around 10-20mm. Does anyone have a favorite wide-angle lens that actually plays nice with the crop sensor?
Honestly, I had such high hopes for the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lens, but unfortunately the build quality felt kinda cheap and the corners were never as sharp as I wanted for those big mountain vistas. If you want something that actually holds up on the 90D, look into these instead:
- Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM
- Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 PRO DX II The Tokina is my go-to now. It is built like a tank and captures way more detail than the kit stuff ever could.

Honestly, check out the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM. It is way cheaper than the pro glass but delivers consistent f/3.5 across the range. Just be careful with calibration on the 90D. Used copies are a steal right now and save you cash for the trip.
^ This. Also, I spent forever crunching the corner-to-corner sharpness numbers before my last trip. The 90D handles high-res sensors fine, but the distortion profiles can get messy if you dont calibrate properly in post. I honestly just grabbed an older ultra-wide zoom that had a fixed aperture and it made such a difference for my mountain shots. Just stick to something with solid glass elements and you should be totally happy.
