My old DSLR finally bit the dust at my brothers wedding last month and honestly im kind of stressed about replacing it. Im looking at either the Sony a6400 or maybe the Canon R50 for some travel photography but my budget is strictly under 800 bucks. I need to get something sorted before my trip to Japan in January. Do retailers like Best Buy, B&H, or maybe Amazon usually drop prices more on these specific models? I feel like I always miss the good deals by like a day and end up paying full price. Which of these stores is actually worth refreshing on Black Friday to save a few bucks?
> Im looking at either the Sony a6400 or maybe the Canon R50 for some travel photography but my budget is strictly under 800 bucks. Honestly, I wouldn't hold your breath for huge discounts on those specific bodies. I tried to snag a deal last year and unfortunately found that the savings were mostly tied to bulky bundles nobody actually needs. I had issues with big box retailers shipping cameras in flimsy packaging, so please be careful where you click buy. I personally stick with B&H because their customer service is actually reliable if something arrives DOA. Amazon is honestly a bit of a gamble with camera gear lately, and I've seen some gray market stuff floating around that makes me nervous. If you want to stay under 800, check out the Sony a6400 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera or the Canon EOS R50 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera. They are solid, but definitely look for open-box or used excellent condition listings. Those often beat the official Black Friday prices and save you a chunk of change for your Japan trip. Dont stress too much about missing the exact second a sale goes live. Usually, the prices stay the same for that whole week. Just keep an eye on the authorized dealers, dont bother with the sketchy third-party sites, and you should be fine. If you need any tips on lenses to pair with those, let me know.
Like someone mentioned, sales are underwhelming. What lenses are you planning to pack? You might get better value looking at the Fujifilm X-T30 II 26.1MP or a used Sony Alpha a6400 24.2MP.
Would love to know this too
Agreed, retailers rarely slash prices much. Check out the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV 20.3MP instead. It is tiny for Japan and usually has solid kit bundles on sale.
