Is the Sony A7 IV actually gonna get any discounts this Black Friday or is it too new for that? Sorry if this is a super basic question, Im totally new to all this camera stuff and honestly super confused by how sales work in photography. Im in the US and saved up around two grand for my first real camera to take on a trip to Japan in January. I keep seeing mixed things online about whether older models drop in price or if Sony stuff never goes on sale. Do stores usually slash prices on these during holiday sales or should I just buy it now so I have time to learn how to use the thing before my flight?

Honestly, in my experience tracking camera gear over the years, Sony bodies rarely see massive direct price drops during Black Friday, especially a main-line hybrid camera. They tend to hold their value pretty stubbornly. You might see bundles with an extra battery or a cheap SD card, but actual cash discounts are usually pretty weak.

  • Holiday sales on popular mirrorless bodies are mostly about bundled accessories rather than steep price cuts
  • Waiting until late November cuts it way too close for a January trip
  • Learning a completely new camera system takes longer than you think I remember stressing over the exact same timing before a big trip a few years back and waiting it out just to save fifty bucks, totally ruining my prep time. You really want to grab whatever body you are eyeing way ahead of schedule. Unboxing it the week before flying to Japan is a recipe for shooting everything in auto mode and hating your menu settings later. Just pick up a body from Sony Alpha and spend those weeks actually learning the exposure triangle. You'll thank yourself later when you are walking down the streets in Tokyo and know your gear inside out.
