Honestly so sick of lugging around the kit lens that came with my X-E4, it just feels like plastic junk and honestly it makes me dread picking the camera up at all. Im trying to shoot more street photography in downtown Chicago but the images just look so flat and I cant get that nice separation I really want. I have maybe 300 bucks tops to spend before my trip next month and I am just stressing out because everything Fuji makes seems way overpriced or just too big for this small body. I really just want something sharp and small that actually feels like a proper lens, you know? Ive been looking at the TTArtisan stuff but im kinda worried about the quality control and not having autofocus. Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent budget prime that wont break the bank or make the camera feel like a brick? I really dont want to regret this purchase since I have to save up for so long to get anything new at all...
Been thinking about your question for a few hours now and honestly, you should look at the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR. Its arguably the best fit for that tiny X-E4 body. I had a few issues with the older version, specifically the focus motor noise, but this updated weather-sealed version is impressively sharp across the frame. It stays incredibly compact, basically like a pancake lens, which fits the street aesthetic perfectly. Unfortunately, prices have climbed, so you might need to hunt for a clean used copy to keep it near your budget. Dont bother with manual glass if you want consistent results in Chicago light. The resolution on the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR is much better than expected for the size. Reach out if you need help looking at specific used listings!
> I really dont want to regret this purchase since I have to save up for so long to get anything new at all... I totally get that stress. If you are worried about quality control with manual lenses, have you looked at the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary? It is reliable, though slightly larger. Before you buy anything, are you planning on strictly street shooting, or do you need it for low light too?
Honestly, skip the cheap manual glass if you need reliable focus for street shots. Unfortunately, QC is super hit or miss. Save a bit more for a used native option instead.
Any updates on this?
