I'm in a bit of a rush here because I have a big wedding shoot coming up in Portland in exactly two weeks and I'm realizing my current lens lineup for the X-H2S is seriously lacking in the portrait department. I've mostly been a landscape guy but I took this gig for a friend and now I'm stressing out about the low light situation in the venue which is this old dark brick building. I need something that gives me that professional blurry background look but I can't decide what actually works best with the newer autofocus system on this camera. My budget is pretty firm around $1200 although I could maybe go a bit higher if it's a lens I'm gonna keep forever and not just for this one job.

I've done a ton of reading online but the opinions are all over the place and it's making my head spin. Here's what I've looked at so far:

  • Fujifilm 56mm f1.2 R WR
  • Fujifilm 90mm f2 LM WR
  • Viltrox 75mm f1.2

The main thing I'm stuck on is that people keep saying the 56mm is slow to focus and noisy even though the new WR version is supposed to be better but then others say the X-H2S makes any lens fast so I don't know who to believe. I'm scared the 90mm is gonna be too long for the indoor reception and I'll be backing into walls trying to get a full body shot. Then there's the Viltrox which is cheap but is it actually reliable enough for a wedding where I only get one shot at the kiss? I've heard some stuff about third party lenses having weird connection issues sometimes.

I really need to get this ordered by the end of the weekend so it arrives in time for me to practice with it before the 15th. Is the 56mm WR actually fast enough for tracking people moving around on a dance floor with the H2S or am I better off getting something with a linear motor like the 90mm or even the 33mm f1.4? Or am I totally overthinking the autofocus speed issues because of the stacked sensor in my body...

I've been really happy with the Fujifilm XF 56mm f1.2 R WR because its so reliable.

  • works well in low light
  • dont have complaints It'll handle that wedding perfectly for you.
