So I finally saved up and got the Leica SL2 and I am literally so happy right now but honestly I have no idea what I am doing with the lenses. My sisters wedding is coming up in September and she wants me to take some nice pictures of her but I only have the heavy one that came with the camera.
Someone told me I should get a prime lens for portraits because it makes the background all blurry and pretty? I have like 1800 dollars left to spend but I dont even know what numbers to look for. Which prime lens should I get for portraits that isnt too hard to use for a beginner?
Re: When I shot my first wedding, I almost...
- I am satisfied with these:
- Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 (linear AF)
- Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary (high resolution) Both work well.
Building on the earlier suggestion, everyone seems to agree on the 85mm or 65mm for those blurry backgrounds, but you can save a ton of cash by going with a 50mm instead. The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is a total beast and way under your budget compared to native Leica glass!
- easier to use in tight wedding venues
- amazing bokeh for portraits
- leaves money for a good flash Tbh this is the smartest way to spend that 1800, seriously.
When I shot my first wedding, I almost ruined the formals by using a lens that was way too slow. You might want to consider the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art for L-Mount for those blurry backgrounds. Just make sure to:
- keep your shutter speed high
- avoid shooting at f/1.4 until you get the hang of it It is easy to miss focus if she moves suddenly...
