Which zoom lens is recommended for the Fujifilm X-S20?

So I finally picked up the X-S20 after years of shooting on my old X-T2 and man the autofocus is a different world but now Im hitting this weird wall with my glass. Ive always been a prime-only person - mostly sticking to the 23mm f2 and the 56mm - but Im heading out to the Swiss Alps next month for a ten-day hiking trip and I realized I really dont want to be fumbling with lens changes in the wind and snow. My logic was just to grab a standard zoom and call it a day but the options are actually making my head spin a bit.

Normally I'd just grab the 18-55mm kit because everyone says its a classic but then I started thinking about the IBIS in the S20. Since the body has such good stabilization do I even need the OIS in the lens? I was looking at the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 because its so tiny and light which is perfect for my budget (trying to stay under 900 bucks) but then I remembered it doesnt have an aperture ring and I might actually hate that after years of Fuji ergonomics.

Then theres the 16-80mm f4 which sounds great for the range but I keep reading mixed reviews about the sharpness at the long end and honestly it looks kinda massive on a smaller body like the X-S20. I want something that balances well because I'll be holding it one-handed a lot while I use my trekking poles.

  • Sigma 18-50mm (light but no ring)
  • Fuji 18-55mm (old but reliable?)
  • Fuji 16-80mm (heavy but versatile)
  • Maybe the 10-24mm if I want to go super wide?

I do a bit of travel vlogging too so the video features on the S20 are a big reason I upgraded but I mainly care about those crisp mountain landscapes. I just cant decide if I should prioritize the faster f2.8 aperture for lower light or the extra reach for those distant peaks. Does the X-S20 sensor really need the newer glass to shine or am I overthinking the resolution stuff...

Since youre dealing with snow and wind, the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR makes the most sense because of the weather sealing. Losing the aperture ring on that Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary is a huge adjustment, so it isnt ideal for this trip. The 16mm wide end is essential for mountain vistas, and that constant f4 works fine with the X-S20's IBIS. It is a solid, versatile choice for a one-lens setup.
