What is the actual best zoom lens for the X-T5 because I am seriously losing my mind looking at charts and reviews? I just dropped a ton of cash on the body for my big trip to Tokyo next month and now I am completely paralyzed by the lens choice. I keep hearing the 40MP sensor is super demanding so I dont want to buy something that looks like mush.
I am torn between the Fuji 16-55mm f2.8 and the newer Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 but both have huge trade-offs. The 16-55 is supposed to be the red badge gold standard but its freaking huge and heavy for a travel lens plus it has no OIS which feels risky even with the IBIS on the XT5. Then there is the Sigma which is tiny and cheap but I lose that 16mm wide end and there is no aperture ring which I kinda love on Fuji cameras.
My budget is around 1200 bucks max so I cant just buy everything. I even looked at the 16-80mm f4 but half the internet says its garbage on the high res sensor and the other half says its fine for travel. I just need one lens that can stay on the camera 90 percent of the time without making me regret my life choices while walking 20k steps a day. Which one actually resolves enough detail for this sensor without breaking my neck?...
Tbh if you want to maximize that 40MP sensor, you absolutely need the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR! I have used it for years and the image quality is just breathtaking. Since you are going to Tokyo, you're gonna want that 16mm wide end for the narrow streets and neon signs. Dont worry about the IBIS vs OIS thing because the X-T5 IBIS is amazing and handles the weight perfectly fine. Here is why it wins:
- Optically superior to almost everything else in the lineup
- Weather sealing is top-tier for those sudden Japan rain showers
- The aperture ring is tactile and essential for the Fuji experience If you are really worried about the weight, the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is a fantastic alternative with stabilization, though you lose the aperture ring. Seriously though, get the red badge and dont look back!
