Can anyone recommend a good tiny travel lens that works with both Leica and Panasonic cameras because I am so confused by all these mount types? Sorry if this is a super basic question but im going to Japan in about two months and I just bought a Panasonic Lumix body (the guy at the store said it uses the L-mount) and Ive been looking at Leica lenses too since they fit apparently? I dont know much about photography at all, I just want something lightweight that I can walk around Tokyo with all day without my neck hurting. My budget is around 500 bucks max, ideally even less if thats possible. What should I actually be searching for when I look online? Do I need a zoom lens or a prime one? Any ideas would be great...

First off, don't sweat the mount confusion. Your camera uses the L-mount alliance system, which means Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma lenses all physically fit on your body. But be careful mixing and matching high-end glass because Leica lenses cost a fortune and will completely blow past your 500 dollar budget. Ngl, most Leica stuff is way more than that. Since you are heading to Tokyo and walking all day, I would suggest sticking to a small prime lens instead of a heavy zoom. Less weight on your neck is a game changer there. Here is what you should look for:

  • Panasonic Lumix S 26mm f8
  • Super cheap, incredibly tiny pancake lens, but manual focus only so make sure you are okay with that.
  • Sigma 45mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary
  • Often found used right around your budget, small size, and autofocus works great with Panasonic.
  • Look for used gear on reputable sites like MPB or KEH to stay under 500 bucks safely. Whatever you do, double check that any lens you buy specifically says L-mount. Dont accidentally buy Micro Four Thirds or older Leica M lenses since those wont fit your camera properly without weird adapters. Have an awesome trip to Japan!
