So I just picked up a Panasonic S5 II and honestly Im totally lost with these lens things. Everyone says get a prime lens if I want that blurry background look but I have no idea what to actually buy. Sorry if this is a stupid question, Im basically a complete beginner.
- Need something super sharp for street photography
- Budget is around 500 bucks max, is that enough?
- Not trying to carry a brick around since I travel a lot
Is there something that wont break the bank but still takes those crazy clear photos? Ive been looking at the Lumix ones but there are like a million choices and my head is spinning...
Agree on Sigma, but unfortunately the 45mm is slow. Try Sigma 35mm F2 DG DN Contemporary for sharpness or Panasonic Lumix S 85mm F1.8 for better depth isolation.
Totally agree with the suggestion to check out Sigma, they really nailed it with the contemporary series for L-mount. I actually picked up the Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary recently and it is perfect for travel because its tiny. Seriously, you wont even notice it on your S5 II. If you want that super creamy background blur for portraits or street shots, here is what I would do:
- Look for the Panasonic Lumix S 50mm F1.8 first. Its usually around 300 bucks or even less if you find a sale. Its insanely sharp for the price and weather sealed, which is a huge bonus when you are out walking around.
- Dont sleep on the used market! Check sites like MPB or KEH. You can often snag high-end glass for way cheaper than retail.
- Stick to the 35mm to 50mm range for street stuff. Its the sweet spot for a natural look. Honestly, the Lumix 50mm f1.8 is basically a cheat code for beginners. It makes everything look pro without costing a fortune. I carry mine everywhere and it never gets in the way. If you need any help figuring out where to buy used gear, just let me know. Super excited for you to get out there and start shooting!
> Need something super sharp for street photography Honestly, I tried some cheaper Lumix primes and unfortunately had issues with focus. Just stick to any prime glass from Sigma, they feel way more reliable.
