Top budget-friendly lens options for the Panasonic S series?

Question

Ive used Lumix forever but just got an S5II for a wedding next month and wow... L-mount glass is way pricier than MFT. My logic was the Sigma 28-70 would fit but even thats over my $600 limit right now.

Should I stick to the 20-60 kit or is there a faster prime Im missing?

Tbh moving to full frame from MFT is a huge shock once you see the glass prices. I made the mistake of trying to adapt vintage lenses to save cash early on and it was a total disaster for anything moving. The autofocus was just erratic and I ended up losing some really nice candid shots. The kit lens is decent for day stuff, but it really lets you down when the reception lighting hits because that f/5.6 or f/6.3 at the long end is just too dark.Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 is probably your best bet for portraits and ceremonies.Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary is usually right near that 600 mark and feels way more solid than the plastic kit lens. I was disappointed with how slow the kit felt in low light. You really need that extra stop or two. Its annoying having to shell out more but weddings demand it.

In my experience, sticking with native glass is always safer for weddings since you cant risk autofocus hiccups. Over the years I've tried many setups, and for under 600 bucks, you really gotta look at the Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8. It is basically a no-brainer for low light situations where that kit lens will struggle. Super reliable and wont break the bank.
