So I finally picked up a Lumix S5II for travel photography and now Im totally lost on lenses. Everyone keeps talking about primes but I honestly dont know where to start. Im looking for one lens that can do a bit of everything for my trip to Italy this summer. My budget is around 600 bucks tops because the camera already drained my wallet. I was looking at the 50mm lenses but then I saw people mention 35mm too and now Im just confused. Is there one that is basically the best for someone like me who just wants sharp shots without changing lenses all the time? Which one should I get?

Honestly, grab the Panasonic Lumix S 35mm f/1.8. It is compact, weather-sealed for travel, and that 35mm focal length is way more versatile than a 50mm for street shots.

If you want the absolute best value that feels like a premium lens without the massive price tag, you have to look at the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary. It is honestly incredible for travel. The build quality is metal, it feels amazing in the hand, and the images are razor sharp right out of the camera. I honestly think it is the perfect middle ground for Italy because it is wide enough for those tight, beautiful alleyways but keeps things natural enough for people shots. It fits right in your budget too, leaving you a bit of cash for some extra batteries or a memory card. You really wont regret going with this one. Just slap it on your S5II and you are good to go for the whole trip. Happy shooting!

In my experience, are you mostly shooting architecture or street portraits? If you want extra reach, the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary is tiny and super sharp.
