so Ive been going crazy trying to pick a standard zoom for my S5II before a trip to Japan next month. my budget is around 1200 max. right now im torn between the sigma 24-70 f2.8 art and the lumix 24-105 f4. my logic was the sigma gives me that sweet low light bokeh for street stuff at night, but then the extra reach and macro-ish feature on the lumix 24-105 sounds super handy for travel when i dont wanna carry extra glass. plus the lumix is lighter which my aching back would love. ugh. has anyone used both for general travel and city wandering, which one do you actually reach for more...
Honestly id skip both and grab a Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary to save cash and weight. What kind of shooter are you mostly, low light or daytime stuff?
Having used both extensively, I recommend the Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 MACRO O.I.S. for travel due to its lighter weight and versatile reach, whereas the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art suits low-light needs better.
To add to the point above: over the years Ive learned weight kills trips faster than missing a stop. Panasonic Lumix S 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 saved my spine in Kyoto. anyway...
