What is the best everyday zoom lens for Panasonic L-mount cameras that wont break my back or my bank account? Ive been shooting with a Lumix S5II for about six months now and honestly Im getting so frustrated with the weight of my current 24-70mm f/2.8 setup. I used to be a Sony guy and I swear the glass felt lighter there but maybe Im just getting old lol. I've got this gig coming up in Seattle in three weeks—mostly candid street stuff and some corporate headshots—and I need something that can handle the drizzly weather but isnt a total brick to carry around all day. I looked at the Sigma 28-70 Contemporary because its tiny but Im worried Ill miss that extra 4mm on the wide end since I do a lot of indoor architectural shots too. Then theres the Lumix 20-60mm which came with the kit but the variable aperture is driving me nuts when Im trying to keep my exposure consistent while zooming in for shots. Is the 24-105mm f/4 actually sharp enough for professional work or am I gonna regret the slower aperture? I have about 1200 dollars to spend and I just need one lens that can stay on the body 90% of the time without making my wrist ache by noon. Seriously, my current setup is like carrying a literal dumbbell around...

An f/4 zoom works for weight but struggles indoors. Youll notice the noise.

  • Slower focus in dim light
  • Less subject separation Better off with a lighter f/2.8 zoom.
