Sorry if this is a dumb question but I just bought a Lumix S5II and I have no idea what lens to get. Im totally broke after the body purchase and really need something versatile for travel. Is there any decent zoom lens that isnt crazy expensive? Im stressing out about buying the wrong thing...

Congrats on the S5II! Honestly, it is a beast. Don't stress too much about the lens situation because there are solid ways to get going without clearing your savings account. Since you need versatility for travel, these are the ones that actually make sense for the money.

  • Panasonic Lumix S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6
  • You can find these used for dirt cheap since they came as a kit lens. The wide end is perfect for travel landscapes.
  • Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary
  • This is smaller and way cheaper than the pro glass. The constant aperture is super helpful if you shoot in the evening. If you want the best bargain, grab the 20-60mm. It is light, sharp enough for most things, and that extra width is a lifesaver when you are in tight spots.

Congrats on the new gear. I remember feeling that same panic after picking up my first full-frame body. Take a breath, you really dont need to drop a fortune right now. Just be careful about buying too many cheap adapters or off-brand glass that might kill your autofocus speed. Personally, I had good luck looking for used copies of older lenses. If you can find one, the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art is a workhorse but might still be pricey. If thats too much, check these out:

Regarding what #2 said about feeling that panic, I totally get it. I am honestly in the same boat trying to stretch my budget after buying my body. Its rough out there. Ive been eyeing the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary lately because its way cheaper than the pro glass but still sharp as heck. Just keep checking the used market, lots of deals floating around if you are patient enough...
