Like someone mentioned, the weight of the f/2.8 is the main dealbreaker for a lot of us. I've lugged the Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S through enough airports to know it's not a casual lens. Nikon's likely holding back to ensure an f/4 version doesn't just cannibalize sales of their newer mid-range glass. In my experience, a solid 70-200mm f/4 needs to hit a few specific marks to be worth the S-line badge:
- Consistent sharpness across the frame, especially at the long end
- Nano Crystal or Arneo coatings to handle flare during sunset shots
- A dedicated tripod collar that doesn't feel like an afterthought Tbh I'm starting to think they might skip the f/4 entirely in favor of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-180mm f/2.8 which fills that lightweight gap. I've used many systems where the f/4 was the forgotten middle child once the budget 2.8s hit the market. Hope I'm wrong tho, cause a lightweight pro-grade telephoto with better weather sealing is exactly what my kit is missing...

I also want this lens, compared to high weight high price Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S lens.
