Ive been shooting with my D750 for like five years now, mostly just using the kit lens and a 50mm prime, but the kit glass is finally starting to feel really limiting during my weekend street photography sessions in Chicago. I dont really want to carry a bag full of lenses anymore because it gets way too heavy after a few hours of walking around. Im looking for something sharp that can handle a bit of everything without breaking the bank, maybe under 800 bucks? Does anyone have a go-to all-around lens that actually holds up well on full frame, or am I just dreaming expecting a zoom to be as crisp as my prime...

Late to the party, but honestly, I think you might be disappointed if you expect a standard zoom to match that 50mm prime. I had issues with the corner sharpness on a few budget zooms over the years, and it can be frustrating when you pixel peep. If you really want to save some cash, look at the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2. It's usually cheaper than the Nikon equivalent, but finding a good copy can be hit or miss unfortunately. Another solid way to save money is checking the used gear sections on sites like KEH or MPB. They have grading systems that are super reliable. Don't settle for the first thing you see, just do your research and maybe keep that prime in your pocket for when the light gets tricky.

Honestly, grab the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR. In my experience, its way more reliable for street shots than the kit lens. Just watch the weight, tho...

Honestly, the glass market is such a scam lately. Prices keep climbing while quality dips, and it drives me crazy trying to find value. Nothing beats that prime sharpness, unfortunately.
