Im seriously about to throw my gear out the window. Spent a fortune on the Z6II but Im just not getting the results I need with the kit lens. It keeps hunting for focus and honestly the sharpness is just total garbage compared to what I expected. I have a trip to Japan coming up in three weeks and I cant deal with this mushy footage anymore. I really need something versatile that works for street photography and portraits so I dont have to keep swapping glass in the rain. What is actually the best all-around lens I should get before I leave? Is the 24-120mm worth the hype or should I just look elsewhere...

I totally feel your pain. I spent forever deciding before my own trip last year. Honestly, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S is the most reliable choice.

  • It handles street shots perfectly since you dont have to switch lenses.
  • Sharpness is way better than the kit lens, which helped my confidence a lot. Just keep the lens hood on to protect the glass from the rain, it works wonders.

Jumping in here because I totally get the frustration with that kit lens! Before you pull the trigger on anything, do you know if you prefer a constant aperture for your low light shots? If you want something incredibly sharp and versatile, I honestly love the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S. It is fantastic for travel! Have you also looked at the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S if you need that extra light?

Ugh, tell me about it. I went through the exact same nightmare with my kit lens during a trip last year and it honestly ruined half my shots. I was so tempted to just toss the whole bag. Just look for any decent fast zoom from Nikon or maybe a third-party glass maker that fits your budget. Anything is gonna be a massive upgrade over what you have now. Just dont overthink it too much before you fly out.
