I've got a huge family reunion coming up next weekend and I seriously need a proper portrait lens for my D7500 because the kit lens just isnt cutting it for those blurry backgrounds I want. I'm torn between the classic Nikon 50mm f/1.8G and the Sigma 56mm f/1.4. My logic was the 50mm is super cheap and easy to find, but then I saw people saying the Sigma is way sharper for crop sensors? But then there's the 85mm 1.8G too... I'm worried the 85mm will be way too long since we'll be indoors mostly. Budget is strictly under $450 and I gotta order it by tomorrow to get it in time. Which one is gonna give me the best look for headshots without being too cramped...
If youre indoors on a D7500, the 85mm is gonna be too tight. Also, that Sigma 56mm is for mirrorless cameras and wont fit your DSLR anyway. For your budget, look at these:
- Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G
- Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G The 50mm 1.8G is plenty sharp and basically the standard for DX portraits. It fits the budget easily and gives you that blurry look.
