What is the actual best all-around travel lens for a Nikon DX body because I am seriously losing my mind trying to pack light for my Japan trip next month. honestly im just fed up with my current setup. I keep carrying the 18-55 kit lens and that massive 70-300 zoom and it is a total nightmare switching them back and forth when im just trying to walk around. I missed so many good shots in Chicago last year because I was fumbling with rear caps and worrying about dust getting on the sensor while everyone else was already moving on. i just cant do it anymore.

I need something that can stay on my D5600 like 95% of the time. Ive been looking at the 18-140mm but some reviews say its soft at the long end, then there is that 16-80mm f2.8-4 but man that thing is pricey. Is the extra width at 16mm worth it or should I just look at a Sigma or Tamron superzoom? My budget is capped at about 600 bucks and im totally fine with buying used gear if it saves me some cash. I just want to focus on the street photography and the temples without feeling like a pack mule. any of you guys found a holy grail lens for this or am i chasing something that doesnt exist...
