so im totally new to this photography thing and kinda feeling overwhelmed. i just picked up a used sony alpha a6000 and the kit lens is fine i guess but i really want that blurry background look everyone has. my budget is super tight right now maybe like 200 bucks max since i need to save for a trip to chicago next month. ive been looking at the sony 50mm and maybe some manual focus ones but i have no idea if thatll be too hard for a beginner like me. does anyone have a recommendation for something cheap that wont be a total pain to use...
Building on the earlier suggestion, try the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary. It is sharper, handles low light better, and fits the A6000 perfectly for street photography.
Welcome to the club! Honestly, the Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS is your absolute best bet here. You can usually find them used for around 200 bucks and its got built-in image stabilization which is a lifesaver on the a6000.
- It gives you that creamy background blur you want without breaking the bank.
- Autofocus is quick enough that you wont be fighting the lens while learning.
- Its super sharp compared to that kit lens youve been using. Skip the manual focus stuff for now. Stick with autofocus so you can focus on composition and lighting instead of fiddling with focus rings. I used mine for years and was always really happy with the results. Have an awesome time in Chicago, you're gonna love the architecture shots there!
Just catching up here! Honestly, look into third-party glass. I think some of those manual focus lenses are actually super fun to learn on even if they feel tricky at first!
