What 85mm prime should I actually get for my A7IV because I am so done with my 24-70mm zoom? Im honestly fed up with the corner sharpness on my current lens for headshots and it is ruining my client gallery turnarounds. My budget is like 1200 bucks max and I need something reliable for outdoor portraits by next month.

^ This. Also, honestly, I tried the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art for a bit, but I had issues with focus hunting in lower light, which was disappointing for the price. Do you strictly need f/1.4 or would a lighter f/1.8 work for your outdoor shoots?

  • Check the firmware on your A7IV before buying anything.
  • Sharpness is great but consistent eye-AF matters more.

Im honestly fed up with the corner sharpness Building on the earlier suggestion, you might want to consider the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM if you can find it used within your budget. I once dealt with corner softness on zooms too and it was a nightmare. Just be careful with older glass since the AF can be a bit slower. Quick tip: always shoot in raw to recover shadow detail during outdoor sessions.

> I am so done with my 24-70mm zoom? Im honestly fed up with the corner sharpness on my current lens for headshots I totally get it. Zooms are convenient, but nothing beats a prime for portrait work. Honestly, save yourself the headache and grab the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Prime Lens. It is sharp as a tack and way under your budget. Used the money I saved to get some nice glass cleaning kits. Best decision ever.
