I'm headed to the zoo this weekend and wondering which Sony lens you'd recommend I bring to get great shots of the animals? I have an a6700 camera. I'm looking for a versatile zoom lens that can handle animal close-ups as well as scenery. Appreciate any suggestions!
Jumping in here because while the previous picks are okay, I honestly think 135mm is way too short for most zoos! Youll be squinting at lions half a mile away. If you want truly amazing shots, you should look at these:
- Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD: This lens is fantastic for the a6700. It covers literally everything. Love it because you dont have to swap glass and miss a shot when an animal moves.
- Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS: If you want the ultimate close-ups, this is the one! But keep in mind compatibility... since its a full frame lens, that 1.5x crop makes it a 900mm equivalent. It is super heavy tho, so it might feel weirdly unbalanced on the tiny a6700 body. Definitely think about the weight vs the reach. Personally, I love the extra reach of the 200-600 but its a workout! Let me know if you want more tips on handling the big lenses, theyre a blast to use once you get used to them!
The Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS C lens is another great choice for Sony a6700 for shooting wildlife. It is compact and budget.
This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
For your Sony a6700 camera, I would recommend the Sony E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens for your trip to the zoo. This versatile zoom lens should work well for both animal close-ups and wider scenery shots.
