Im stressing out so bad over this. Heading to Japan in like three weeks and I desperately need one solid lens for my a7iv so I dont have to swap glass in the middle of crowded streets. Im totally torn between the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G2 and the Sony 24-70mm GM II. The Sony is insanely expensive and my budget is already maxed out after flights, but Ive heard the build quality is way better. Then again, the Tamron is super light which would be nice since Im walking all day. Am I gonna regret saving money and getting the Tamron or is it actually just as good for travel street shots?
Honestly id skip both and just grab a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art instead. Save cash and get weather sealing that wont let you down in Tokyo rain.
TL;DR: Grab the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di III VXD G2 and dont look back. In my experience, stressing over gear before a big trip ruins the fun. The Sony Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM II is undeniably a tank, but the weight savings on the Tamron matter way more when you're logging 20k steps a day in Tokyo. Optically you wont notice a difference on your a7iv.
