Ive been shooting with my A7III for years but suddenly realized my current glass isnt cutting it for travel. Im heading to Japan in three weeks and need one versatile lens. Budget is around 1k. Needs to be:
- lightweight - sharp for street - decent aperture. Should I just grab the Tamron 28-75 or look elsewhere?
Honestly, I had some quality control issues with the Tamron, so I wouldnt bank on it for a trip as important as Japan. Unfortunately, my copy was soft at the edges and just not as reliable as expected. If I were you, I would look at these instead:
- Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS
- Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Stick to lenses with better build consistency so you dont deal with focus hunting while traveling.
Honestly, grab the Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G. It is super sharp and the extra width is perfect for those tight Japanese alleyways. Total game changer for travel.
Re: Honestly, I had some quality control issues with the Tamron, so I wouldnt bank on it for a trip as important as Japan. I actually switched over to the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for my last trip and honestly loved it.
- Way lighter than the 24-105
- Super sharp for street shots
- Consistent autofocus It felt a lot more compact when walking around Tokyo all day. Really solid choice if you want to keep your bag light but keep that constant aperture.
