Whats the best all-around lens for a Sony A7IV for my big Japan trip next month?

I'm super hyped but stuck between the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and the Sony 24-105mm since my budget is $1100 max. Sigma is fast but that extra reach on the Sony seems better for Tokyo street stuff... which one?

Honestly, id go with the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art for a trip like that. Japan has so many dim alleys and indoor spots where youll really miss that extra stop of light if you stick with an f4 lens. I have used the Sony FE 24-105mm f4 G OSS on similar trips and while the reach is nice, I ended up bumping the ISO way too high once the sun went down in Tokyo.

  • Low light: That f2.8 is a lifesaver for night markets and temples.
  • Sharpness: The Sigma is seriously crisp, basically as good as the expensive Sony GM for way less cash.
  • Versatility: f2.8 gives you that nice blurry background for street portraits. If youre worried about reach, you can always use the crop mode on your A7IV to get a bit closer. Just my two cents tho... have a killer time in Japan!

In my experience, grab Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di III VXD G2.

  • saves $200
  • way lighter Hit me up for more travel advice.

Actually, are you planning on carrying a tripod or going purely handheld? Not sure but iirc that extra 200g might really suck after walking ten miles a day through Shinjuku...
