The choice is killing me. I've been a prime shooter forever but my Japan trip is in three weeks and I'm stressing. Need a one-and-done lens for my A7III under $1200.
- sharp at 2.8
- weather sealed
- not a brick
Should I just grab the Sigma 24-70 or is there something newer I missed?

You should definitely look at the Tamron G2 before you drop a ton of money on the Sigma! I have relied on this lens for multiple international trips and it is absolutely amazing for the price. It hits every single one of your requirements perfectly without breaking the bank.
- Cost: You can usually find it for around $700-$800, which is a massive steal compared to other options!
- Portability: It is so much lighter than the Sigma Art series, so it wont feel like a brick during 15-mile walking days in Tokyo.
- Reliability: The weather sealing is top-notch and has never failed me in the rain.
- Optics: The sharpness at f/2.8 is just fantastic for those low light street shots. Grab the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Sony E-mount and use the extra $400 for better food in Japan! It is the safest and most logical choice for a one-and-done setup.
