So I've been a prime lens guy forever, mostly a7RIV with a 35mm and 85mm setup, but I'm finally caving. Got a trip to the Swiss Alps next month and I realized I'm gonna hate life if I'm swapping lenses in the snow while my kids are running around. I need one solid zoom but I'm hitting a wall with the choices.

My logic was get the 24-70 GM II but that's way over my $1500 budget. I was looking at the Sigma 24-70 DG DN Art but it's such a brick to carry on a hike. Then I saw the Tamron 28-200 which sounds perfect for range but will I regret losing that 24mm width for landscape shots? Or maybe the Tamron 28-75 G2? I'm just so used to primes that picking one zoom is stressing me out lol.

> will I regret losing that 24mm width for landscape shots? Yes, you totally will!! 24mm is huge for those mountain views and you'll feel so cramped at 28mm. Transitioning from primes is tough, but this is the right move for the Alps. Since youre worried about reliability and hiking weight, you should definitely look at the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS. I love this lens because it's such a safe choice for travel! The weather sealing is amazing in the snow and the built-in stabilization is super dependable when you're tired from hiking. It's way lighter than the Sigma Art lenses and that 105mm reach is fantastic for grabbing shots of the kids. Honestly, it's the most reliable workhorse lens Sony makes. You wont miss f/2.8 nearly as much as you'd miss the 24mm width! Go for it.
