Ive been shooting on my A7RIV for years and usually stick to primes, but I just booked a last minute trip to Iceland for next month and Im panicking. I really dont want to be swapping glass in the rain and wind. I need a single workhorse that handles landscapes and street stuff in Reykjavik.
I was looking at the 24-70 GM II but its so expensive, or maybe the Tamron 28-75? My budget is around 2k but I can wiggle a bit for the right quality. Whats the absolute best all-around zoom for the Sony system right now that isnt a total brick to carry?
I usually play it safe with my gear and honestly, sticking with native Sony glass is the most reliable way to go for a big trip. I have been very satisfied with my setup lately and havent had any complaints about reliability in the field.
- The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is the absolute best quality you can get for that sensor. Its surprisingly light and wont feel like a brick around your neck.
- If you want extra reach, the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS is a solid workhorse. It has great weather sealing which gives me peace of mind when it starts drizzling.
- Both lenses work well with the internal tracking so you wont have to worry about missing shots of the scenery. I think the 24-70mm GM II is the best choice if you can swing the price. It is definitely not a brick and feels very safe to use in tough conditions.
