I need a lens like yesterday lol. My sisters graduation is literally next Friday and I finally saved up enough for a decent prime lens for my a6400 but now im stuck. I've been looking at that Sony 50mm f1.8 because its so cheap but half the reviews say the autofocus is absolute garbage and loud as hell which scares me since i want to get some video too.
Then I saw the Sigma 30mm f1.4 which everyone raves about for being super sharp but its a bit more expensive and I dont know if 30mm is gonna be tight enough for portraits across a room. My budget is strictly under 300 bucks and I cant go over that because of rent coming up. I checked a few local shops here but they dont have anything in stock so I gotta order it online tonight to get it here in time.
Is the Sony actually that bad or should I just bite the bullet on the Sigma even if it's wider? Or is there some other cheap brand like Viltrox or Samyang I should be looking at instead? I'm honestly panicking a bit because I dont want to show up with just my kit lens and get blurry shots in that dark gymnasium...
Seriously, dont get that full-frame Sony 50mm, the autofocus noise will totally ruin your video! If you need reach for a graduation, the Viltrox 56mm f1.4 AF Sony E is fantastic and usually right under 300 bucks online. I love it because:
- f1.4 is a total beast for dark gymnasiums!
- Autofocus is super quiet and snappy for video!
- Much better reach than that 30mm! Its definitely the best bang for your buck for portraits right now!
