Ive been shooting with my A7III for about five years now, mostly using zooms, but I finally want to commit to a prime for some street photography in London. My budget is around 800 quid. Should I go for the Sony 35mm f/1.8 or save up for the 35mm GM? Is the difference really that huge?

Honestly, the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 is plenty for London streets. It's lighter and saves cash for a trip.

  • Sharpness is plenty
  • Better for walking all day Save the extra money.

> Is the difference really that huge? Honestly, be careful with the GAS trap. The Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 is super reliable for daily street work and much easier on the back. I would suggest sticking with that unless you absolutely need the extra light. Make sure to factor in the cost of a good filter to protect the front element too. Save your cash for a rainy day.

Tbh, save for the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM. The sharpness difference is night and day. Just be careful, it adds weight compared to the Sony FE 35mm F1.8.
