How to read this timeline

Dates: we sort by the formal product announcement date in the linked official release. Regional announcements can fall on different days. A later official notice may confirm an earlier announcement date.
New model: a formal launch announcement for a lens or a new generation. Development previews, patents and rumors are excluded.
New mount: an existing lens gains one or more native mounts. These are tracked as separate events. A new model or generation does not necessarily mean a new optical formula.
Listed launch: the manufacturer’s published schedule for the stated region and mount. It is separate from the announcement date and does not indicate current retailer stock. We keep month or approximate timing when the source gives no exact day. Fujifilm standalone-lens schedules may differ from earlier camera-kit availability.
Specifications: focal lengths are actual focal lengths, not full-frame equivalents. Apertures are maximum values (T-stops for the GF32–90mm); the Panasonic 26mm F8 has a fixed aperture. AF means autofocus capability; MF means manual focus only. Lens IS means optical stabilization in the lens, excluding stabilization supplied only by a camera body. Weight is listed for the mounts in that event; manufacturer measurement conditions and tripod-mount exclusions can differ. Format follows the native cameras for the mounts shown; the Sigma DG 100–400mm X-mount version is listed as APS-C.
2021–2025 scope: reviewed formal mirrorless-lens announcements from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, OM System, Panasonic, Sigma, Sony and Tamron. Includes the brands’ photography and hybrid ranges, Fujifilm GF tilt-shift lenses and Canon RF stereoscopic lenses. Excludes dedicated cinema lens lines, development-only announcements, fixed camera lenses, teleconverters, same-model cosmetic renewals, special finishes and later regional re-announcements. Named replacement generations, such as the OM System 9–18mm II, are included even when their optical formula is retained.
2026 scope: selected announcements through October 29, 2026; this year is still being expanded. It is not used for a full-year comparison.

2021–2025 review: sources and counting decisions

2021: 48 events (47 new models, 1 mount addition). 2022: 40 events (33 new models, 7 mount additions). 2023: 46 events (39 new models, 7 mount additions). 2024: 41 events (33 new models, 8 mount additions). 2025: 37 events (35 new models, 2 mount additions). These counts cover the stated eight-brand scope, not the entire lens market.

Announcement year and shipping year differ. The Sony FE 300mm F2.8 belongs to its November 2023 formal announcement, with February 2024 shipping. The Canon RF135mm F1.8 and Panasonic Leica 12–35mm F2.8 shipped in 2023 and appear under their 2022 announcement dates. January 2023 previews of Sony’s 300mm and Nikon’s 85mm/26mm are not counted again.

2021–2022 counting decisions. Nikon’s 28mm F2.8 is dated to the June 2021 formal SE release; the later standard finish and the 40mm SE are not separate optical models. Olympus releases are grouped under OM System. Tamron’s 18–300mm E release in August 2021 explicitly deferred X to a separate announcement, retained here in September. Development previews and lenses announced in 2020 but shipped in 2021 are excluded.

Mount rollouts count once per lens. Sigma’s six RF versions are dated to their April 23, 2024 announcement, with separate shipping-source links; the 16mm and 23mm shipped in January 2025. Sigma’s 23mm X mount was already named in its original April 2023 announcement, so its September shipping notice is not a second event. The Tamron 28–75mm G2 Z release is dated March 28, 2024 from the document heading and body, despite an earlier date embedded in its URL.
