Chinese lens manufacturer SG-Image has announced its second lens, a 35mm f/0.95 prime for APS-C mirrorless cameras. The company, which recently released a $40 25mm f/1.8 lens, is still relatively unknown in the photography world.
Lens Specifications
The SG-Image 35mm f/0.95 features:
- 12 elements in 9 groups
- 12 aperture blades
- Stepped manual aperture
- Minimum focus distance of 0.35 meters (13.8 inches)
- All-metal design with focus scale and depth of field markers
- Weight: approximately 393 grams (13.9 ounces)
- 52mm filter thread
Versatile Lens Mount Options
The fast prime will be available for a wide range of camera systems, including:
- Sony E
- Nikon Z
- Fujifilm X
- Canon EOS-M
- Canon R
- Micro Four Thirds (70mm equivalent focal length)
- L-Mount
Lack of Electronic Communication
Like its predecessor, the SG-Image 35mm f/0.95 lacks electronic communication with the camera body. This means that EXIF data such as focal length, aperture, and shutter speed will not be automatically recorded unless manually added by the photographer.
Uncertainty in Quality and Pricing
While some Chinese lens manufacturers have proven to deliver high-quality products, others have been inconsistent. As a new company, it remains to be seen how SG-Image’s lenses will perform. Additionally, although the 35mm f/0.95 is expected to be more expensive than the company’s $40 25mm f/1.8 lens due to its complexity, official pricing information has not been released.
