Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z Lens Announced, Priced $2,999, Available for Pre-Order

Canon has announced Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z, a telephoto zoom lens aimed at professional photographers and videographers, and designed to work with both EOS and Cinema EOS cameras. This new lens costs $2,999, first available for pre-order at B&H/ Adorama.

Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM Z lens is a compact, non-extending internal zoom design, with a notable highlight for many users being its compatibility with Canon’s 1.4x and 2x RF-mount teleconverters, allowing for focal lengths of up to 400mm. It will be offered in two color options.

Canon’s first RF-mount 70-200mm F2.8 lens, the RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM, featured a collapsible design for enhanced portability but lacked teleconverter compatibility. A Canon representative mentioned that the new lens is aimed at users who haven’t transitioned from their EF lenses due to the limitations of the original RF version. Both lenses will continue to be available in the lineup.

From an optical standpoint, the lens incorporates 18 elements arranged in 15 groups, which include two Super UD elements, one UD element, and three aspherical elements. It is also equipped with Canon’s Air Sphere Coating to reduce ghosting and flare, alongside a fluorine-coated front element and an 82mm filter thread.
