I've been shooting with the EOS R for a few years and usually stick to my 24-105 but I’ve recently caught the macro bug. Borrowed a buddies old EF 100mm f/2.8 with the adapter and its just... clunky. The AF keeps hunting way more than it should on this body and I’m kinda over the extra length of the adapter combo.

I’m looking for something native for shooting tiny details on succulents and bees for a trip I have coming up in three weeks. Budget is around 900 bucks. Should I just shell out for the RF 100mm L or is that Laowa manual focus one actually as good as people say?

Tldr: Look for a used Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. Its worth the stretch for the AF speed alone. Laowa is great but manual focus is tough for bees.
